When my oldest child was a baby/toddler, we lived off those cool Plum Organic and Happy Baby squeeze packs of healthy smoothie-like purees. I was in a very active playgroup, and we were always on the go. The one thing I wanted, though, was to be able to take a squeeze pack of vegan yogurt, and that just didn't exist.
Then one day I was at Toys R Us and they had this cool Infantino Squeeze Station. It came with packets just like the ones I'd been buying, but you filled them with your own things, like homemade smoothies and yogurt! Hurray! I hadn't used it in a while, and I've actually considered getting rid of it a couple times, and now I'm glad I didn't. With the recent recall on the packets of apple sauce that my daughter brings for her snack at school nearly every day, I wanted to get back to making my own. Also, we are trying to do a spending freeze until Thanksgiving, including groceries if we can help it (and with my well-stocked freezer and pantry, we totally can). So, today I grabbed a few apples that had one bite taken out of them- hazards of having a 4 year old, a can of organic papaya in pineapple juice that I recently ordered online, an some frozen mango. I simmered it all together with a few pinches of cinnamon until the apples were soft and then pureed them and filled up 6 packets. They need to stay in the refrigerator, but are okay to take for lunch without going bad. This is great for so many reasons:

I wrote a children's book, How Our Vegan Family Celebrates, to help vegans and vegan allies know how to include vegans in their celebrations and give affirmation to vegan kids who may feel alone. The book goes through holidays throughout the year and has a section at the back with parent tips!
